We needed to figure out where we would root down as we were beginning to discuss our future together and starting a family.

The neighborhood around Seattle, specifically around Lake Union was not what it used to be. Where I once commuted by foot or public transportation 80% of the time, I was now driving due to the increase in crimes.

We discussed where to move once my lease ended and one of the options that came up was to move to Dallas. Glenn was already commuting here weekly for work and with my work, we have an office in Frisco, which would be a great option for both of us.

Since I had never lived away from the West Coast, we decided to take a trip and visit the area in March 2021. And so began our adventure!

We headed out to Dallas for an extended weekend and enjoyed the cool weather, which totally had me believe Texas wasn’t as humid as people made me believe. We ventured out through eating and visited the lake to get some nature. We also spent some time at Nebraska Furniture Mart and well, we love that store.

We looked at rental properties and really just drove around. It reminded me a lot of Irvine, CA where I lived a few years ago for many years. We decided we could see ourselves living here and decided to take the steps to relocate. We were soon to be Texans!

We were going to move to a place with no family or friends around and figure out this life together. We knew there would be challenges but were up for all the newness AND adventure, this move would bring.

Just before May 1st, we hit the road for a 33 hour drive. Our belongings were in a POD which would be delivered to us a few weeks after we arrived to Dallas. I left my car in Seattle because we had a limited time due to Glenn’s work schedule and since I work from home, figured I could go back in a few weeks to get my car. We drove a long stretch daily and slept in a hotel each night. It took about 3 days-ish. We stopped near Denver, CO where Glenn’s mom lives and visited and spent time with her. The weather during our drive was great, it was just a really boring drive most of the time.

Once we got to our rental, it was a little past midnight and the power was not on yet, even though. I had ordered it to start service on the day we arrived. We later learned, it would turn on in the morning. We left at 2am from our rental to a nearby hotel to get the much needed rest we would need. When we headed back to our rental, the power had been on. We had the internet guy coming as well but also needed appliances because Glenn would have to leave for work in a day or so and I wouldn’t have a car. We headed to our fave store NFM and got all the needed appliances we needed.

I can’t believe it, we really made it. We are really here in Texas, a place I had only visited once before.

Side note: I was completely fooled by the amazing weather in March. When we arrived in May, it was thunderstorms and humid almost the entire month through July. Dallas had a ton of flooding also. Locals kept saying it wasn’t normal but I questioned if I would really enjoy it here. I mean, I left Seattle because of the constant rain!
