Great Wolf Lodge

Originally, we were scheduled to stay at the lodge back in July of this year but I got sick so we postponed it. Based on Glenn’s future schedule, I was anxious about his schedule for next year and went ahead to schedule our visit in December. I thought, it can’t be that busy right?

Apollo and I were sick. Some kind of cold like symptoms. We stayed at the lodge Friday – Sunday but made the best of it any way. It was only about a 45 minute drive from home so it was a nice getaway to Grapevine.

It was really exciting. Honestly, it felt busy in my opinion but a worker later told us it was considered slow. When we went anywhere, it seemed packed so during the “busy” season, it must be jammed. When we arrived on Friday, we had no clue how anything worked. We checked in at the kiosk which printed our wrist bands but the bands for the kids just fell off or they were able to pull it off themselves. We were able to go to the front desk staff and they gave us better ones that the kids could not take off themselves.

We decided to get our feet wet at the water park so we checked into the room and changed quickly to go down to the park. It was confusing but fun. We got towels from the desk inside the waterpark, she told us we just had to return 4 towels before we leave the park and are good. They scan the bracelet to keep track of this. We were off. They kids area was perfect for Emily but Apollo still had trouble playing on his own. We of course stayed together but Glenn had to do most of the fun activities with the kids. I would hang out with one of them while Glenn and a kid went down a slide or played in the waves then he would come back and switch.

We didn’t stay long because it was time to eat dinner and we didn’t want to deal with hangry kids. We ordered pizza, burgers, chicken tenders and Glenn went to pick it up. It was great because I could just order from my phone. He could have ordered from the restaurant too.

We did get one pup pass, it was probably not necessary. The build a bear made it worth it for sure. Emily was very happy with that. Hopefully next time we come, we can get one for each kid.

Glenn and I both agreed that the beds were uncomfortable. We both got terrible sleep during the hotel. Also, our room was close to the elevator which we thought was convenient at first but later realized the Magiquest play happens throughout the morning, day and night and quiet hours does not begin until 11pm. We would next time request a room further away for more peace and quiet.

For breakfast after the first night, we went to the Breakfast Buffet on the first floor where the lobby is. The food was really good, had lots of options and we ate more than we should have. The kids mainly had cereal so that wasn’t great, but we were happy that they ate. We did bring a bunch of snacks so gave them some healthy and non healthy ones back in the room throughout the day.

Also, if you can travel without a stroller, it could be easier to get up and down with the stairs instead of waiting. There are often lots of people waiting to get on the elevators. Our room was on the 4th floor and the 2nd night (our last night here), we ate at the Fireside restaurant which was on our floor. It was perfect. Less busy than the Hungry Wolf Food Hall and we were able to sit down and have a very nice meal. We did buy the meal package so we used up our credits on the very last night.

Apollo and I stayed in the room while Glenn took Emily to the waterpark on day 2, it was probably more enjoyable for them and we got to chill which I liked. I think getting away for a local staycation is fun because you get to still be away from home, mostly don’t have to cook and kids get a new place to explore.

We can’t wait to be back again, we’ll have to find another slow schedule in the future.
